At $10 a cord, a wood stove could keep you warm for a part of the winter for less than $50. That's the price per cord at Whiskeytown National Recreation Area in California, where the trees were cut down after the Carr Fire swept the park in 2018. There is, however, a four-cord limit per person.

New Executive Order Could Open Forests In National Parks To Logging

An executive order expected to be posted Monday in the Federal Register is somewhat open-ended in directing the Interior and Agriculture departments to actively manage forests to reduce the risk of wildfires. Conservationists are concerned how the order could either directly or indirectly affect lands within the National Park System.

Doors of the Whiskeytown National Recreation Area headquarters officially reopened almost five weeks after one of the largest wildfires in California’s history swept through the park, ultimately burning 39,000 of the park's 42,000 acres. After enduring an extremely trying and overwhelming time, the park laid down one more brick in a new foundation.
