Share

Construction projects slated to occur this spring at Cape Cod National Seashore in Massachusetts could lead to area closures or delays for visitors.

Hazard Tree Stabilization at Historic Properties

During the week of April 6-14 the NPS Arborist Incident Response (AIR) Team will be performing hazard tree stabilization at the park’s historic properties including Nauset Lighthouse, Captain Penniman House, and Atwood-Higgins House.

Marconi Beach Stair Replacement

Prior to Memorial Day, the aging beach access staircase at Marconi Beach will be removed and replaced with a new, in-kind staircase to improve safe beach access.

Race Point and Head of the Meadow Beach Fee Booth Replacement

Prior to Memorial Day, the aging fee booths at Race Point Beach and Head of the Meadow Beach will be removed and replaced with new fee booths. The park is planning to replace additional fee booths next year.

Captain Penniman Barn Structural Stabilization

This summer, the Captain Penniman barn will undergo structural stabilization to make the building safe for future visitor access.

Vault Toilet Replacement

During late spring/early summer, new double-wide vault toilets will be installed to replace the aging vault toilets and port-o-johns at Herring Cove (South) Beach, Beech Forest Trail, and Great Island Trail.

Roads/Parking Areas Paving

This spring, the park plans to replace and repave the Pilgrim Heights parking area, Head of Meadow Beach parking lot, and Old Dewline Road in Truro.

Park-Wide Sign Plan Installation

The park-wide sign replacement plan will begin this spring with more than 1,000 park signs being removed and replaced with new signage that reflects National Park Service sign standards. Route 6 signs are being installed during the month of April. The next portion of the installation will take place in May and June throughout the park. Work will pause during the busy summer season and will pick back up in September and October.
