The Traveler Wins A North American Travel Writing Award

National Parks Traveler has been honored for its Canadian coverage by the North American Travel Journalists Association (NATJA).

The 31st Annual NATJA Travel Media Awards Competition were announced recently from Pasadena and celebrate work published between Oct. 1, 2021 and Sept. 30, 2022.

The Traveler’s Canada editor Jennifer Bain won honorable mention in the Sustainable Travel category for “Protecting P.E.I.’s Sand Dunes From Footprints,” published July 13, 2022 after a trip to Prince Edward Island National Park. Other winning stories in this category were published in Travel + Leisure, the New York Times and Bloomberg Pursuits.

“The entries we received this year exemplify the `best of the best’ in travel journalism from photography, to articles, to blogs, to podcasts, to destination marketing,” NATJA CEO Helen Hernandez said in a news release. 

Judges included award-winning newspaper and magazine editors as well as educators from across journalism disciplines. One first place (gold) winner was chosen in each category along with second place (silver), third place (bronze) and honorable mentions.

Founded in 1991 by a group of 16 travel writers, NATJA is now one of the largest professional associations of travel writers, photographers, editors, bloggers and tourism professionals, and it has professional development programs, a bi-weekly newsletter, annual awards competition and annual conference/marketplace.
