Overlook Collapses At Point Reyes National Seashore, Killing One

One visitor was killed and another injured when part of a popular overlook at Point Reyes National Seashore in California collapsed, dropping them 70 feet to the ground below.

Seashore officials say the two, whose identities have not been released pending notification of their families, were enjoying the view from the Arch Rock overlook on Saturday when the ground fell away beneath them.

"One individual died shortly after evacuation. One individual received non-life threatening injuries," the seashore reported. "The Arch Rock trail has been closed until further notice."

No further details were released.

A sad situation. This story has a photo showing the massive extent of the slide. That story reports, "The San Francisco Chronicle said both hikers were adults and had gone past warning signs onto a hazardous overlook sometime before 6 p.m. Saturday. "
