Road Work Coming To Kolob Terrace Road At Zion National Park

Share

Spring is coming!  Which means rising temperatures, blossoming flowers, Cadbury Easter Eggs, and road construction.  Major developments (aka closures) are taking place inside the western side of Zion National Park on two sections of the Kolob Terrace Road starting on March 2.

Construction is expected to continue through October 31st and will repair the damage inflicted from an influx of traffic due to increased park visitation and housing developments along the terrace.  This project is a long-term solution that will improve the safety of resident and tourist commuters and repair structural issues that reach back to the road's humble beginnings in 1979.  This reconstruction, park officials say, will enable the road to sustain a heavier flow of traffic by widening lanes, adding culverts, and fortifying supporting walls.

So, heads up for those of you who have Zion on your trip itinerary this year. Please be aware of the three-hour closures and plan accordingly.  There will be no work at night, on weekends, or on holidays.  Other areas such as Springdale, Utah, the main Zion Canyon, and eastern portions of the park will not be in the construction area.

For those visitors who wish to visit the Kolob Canyons area of the park, you may use Interstate 15.  If you wish to avoid the construction, then access the park thru the South and East entrances.  The project was planned with great care to allow passage of locals and tourists, so please see the schedule below for your traveling convenience.  Within the construction zones, the road likley will be bumpy and uneven, so please drive slowly and safely and enjoy your trip.
