Share

A 13-year-old California boy who got separated from his group in the backcountry of Kings Canyon National Park has been found and was to be brought out today.

Park officials said Austin Shedd, of Carlsbad, California, was found about 9:30 p.m. Monday. "Shedd will stay overnight in the wilderness with the trail crew until a rescue flight can take place on Tuesday," a park release said.

Few details of the incident were available. Park officials were notified about 2 a.m. Monday that the teen-ager was missing. The group had been in the Arow Peak area of the park when the boy went missing. The group had set out from Taboose Pass in the Inyo National Forest enroute to Bench Lake and Arrow Peak in Kings Canyon National Park, and had planned to retrace their route.
