Lightning Strike Fatality At Rocky Mountain National Park

A woman was killed and seven other hikers injured by a lightning strike Friday at Rocky Mountain National.

Park officials say the strike was reported shortly before 1:30 p.m. at a point on the Ute Crossing Trail. The area, above treeline, is located off of Trail Ridge Road between Rainbow Curve and Forest Canyon Overlook. Eight people were affected by the lightning strike with a variety of injuries. Two were transported by ambulance and five transported themselves to the Estes Park Medical Center.

The woman who died was not identified. Park officials did not expect to release any additional information Friday.
