Rocks Mountain Fire At Shenandoah National Park Spreads To More Than 100 Acres

The Rocks Mountain Fire in Shenandoah National Park had spread to more than 100 acres Saturday, and nearly 60 firefighters were working the wildfire.

The fire, which was burning entirely within the park on Rocks Mountain, was reported to park at approximately 3:10 p.m. on Friday. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Due to the fire and to ensure visitor safety, the park closed the following trails: Riprap, Wildcat Ridge and Rocks Mountain. The rest of the park including the Skyline remained open.

Currently, 58 personnel were working to contain the fire. Resources assigned to the fire include personnel from the National Park Service, USDA Forest Service, Virginia Department of Forestry, and Augusta County Fire and Rescue. Additional firefighters and equipment have been requested.
