Grand Canyon-Parashant National Monument Honored For Dark Skies

The million-plus acre Grand Canyon-Parashant National Monument that's squeezed between Grand Canyon National Park and the Utah border has drawn kudos for its wonderfully dark night skies.

The isolated location of the monument and the sparse development surrounding it happen to make it one of the best locations for viewing dark night skies. 

The International Dark Sky Association recently bestowed International Dark Sky Park status as the "Parashant International Night Sky Province - Window to the Cosmos." A public event is being planned to celebrate National Park Week, International Dark Sky Awareness Week and Junior Ranger Day in St. George, Utah, on April 26th.

Parashant National Monument is jointly managed by U.S. Bureau of Land Management and the National Park Service.
