If you have an artistic side, you might consider entering the competition for a 2014 edition poster promoting this year's Acadia Night Sky Festival in and around Acadia National Park.

This year's festival, the sixth annual, runs September 25-29, and is shaping up to be even bigger and better than ever before.

As part of its mission to recognize the inspiration of the night skies over Acadia and Downeast, Maine, the festival is happy to announce its first-ever public Poster Artwork Contest. All photographers and artists are encouraged to submit images of their work for consideration, and to possibly be selected as the 2014 Poster image for the 6th Annual Acadia Night Sky Festival.

Photographers and artists over the age of 18 are eligible for participation and all skill levels and mediums are welcome. The Acadia Night Sky Festival is looking for striking photography or artwork that captures the night sky above Acadia and/or Downeast, Maine for use in the annual festival poster and related marketing materials.

The winning image should portray Acadia or Downeast, Maine, in a recognizable way, with celestial objects included in the composition. The contest will accept submissions March 1 through March 31. For the full terms, rules and conditions, please visit www.acadianightskyfestival.org, or email [email protected] for further details.

The Acadia Night Sky Festival is a community celebration to promote the protection and enjoyment of Downeast & Acadia'™s stellar night sky as a valuable natural resource through education, science and the arts. Leadership is provided by a volunteer committee of individuals and organizations including Acadia National Park, Bar Harbor Chamber of Commerce, Friends of Acadia, Schoodic Education and Research Center, Jackson Laboratory, College of the Atlantic, Abbe Museum, Bar Harbor Whale Watch Company, and the Mount Desert Island Regional Chamber of Commerce.
