Golden Spike National Historic Site in Utah will be holding its annual Winter Steam Days on December 28, 29 and 30 this year.

Activities will start at 9 each morning and will run until 5 each afternoon. The replica of the Union Pacific's locomotive 119 will be the featured performer.

This is a great opportunity for spectacular photos if the sky is blue. Even if it's not, there's still a lot of fun for everyone. Families may have a chance to try their hand at pumping a real handcar up and down the tracks. Engine 119 will steam back and forth several times during the day. The huffing and chuffing of that steam engine is an unforgettable sound punctuated from time to time with the blast of its steam whistle.

Dress very warmly. Even on a sunny day, wind chill out there is enough to set off the shiver reflexes of most folks. Much better to have too many warm clothes along than to discover you needed more. Check Golden Spike's official website for more information.

Caution: Don't trust your GPS. Follow roadsigns from Brigham City, Tremonton, or Interstate 15 or 84. A paper road map works better than a GPS.
