Three people, including two young children, were injured Wednesday when stormy weather downed a tree in Cades Cove at Great Smoky Mountains National Park.

The three -- a 41-year-old woman, her 1-year-old daughter, and 7-year-old nephew -- were injured shortly before 4 p.m. Eastern near the Missionary Baptist Church in the cove. The woman had been knocked unconscious, while the children sustained unidentified injuries, a park release said.

Due to the inclement weather, flying the patients out by helicopter was not an option, so they were taken by ambulance to the University of Tennessee Medical Center.

Missionary Baptist Church is located approximately 4 miles around the 11-mile one way Cades Cove Loop Road. An investigation into the accident was continuing.
