Olympic National Park's 75th Birthday To Be Celebrated Saturday

Share

A celebration will be held Saturday to mark Olympic National Park's 75th birthday, with cake and lavender ice tea available for all comers.

The Park Service will be joined by ARAMARK Parks and Destinations in celebrating the diamond anniversary of the designation of Olympic National Park. It was 75 years ago that President Franklin Delano Roosevelt visited Lake Crescent and Lake Quinault Lodge on a fact-finding expedition for national land preservation.

“President Roosevelt showed great forward-thinking and vision when he protected the remote wilderness by establishing Olympic National Park,” says Olympic Superintendent Sarah Creachbaum. “Those of us who work in the park are honored to continue preserving this vibrant region for all to experience.”

“As the authorized concessioner of both Lake Crescent Lodge and Log Cabin Resort, ARAMARK is privileged to share in such an important milestone for Olympic National Park,” says David Sloma, vice president of operations. “Inviting the community to participate in events like the 75th Jubilee Anniversary allows us to share the splendor of Olympic National Park with others.”

The celebration starts at 9 a.m. on Saturday with breakfast at Lake Crescent Lodge to commemorate the start of Roosevelt’s expedition. Superintendent Creachbaum and other dignitaries will speak to Roosevelt’s vision and how the park service and its partners strive to keep it alive today.

Cake and lavender iced tea also will be available throughout the day. The event is open to the public, and reservations are recommended.

Following the breakfast, a community BBQ will take place at Log Cabin Resort on the north shore of Lake Crescent. Complimentary hamburgers, hot dogs and locally sourced produce provided by Sysco and sodas provided by locally owned, Bedford Sodas, will be available for guests. Additionally kids will enjoy snow cones and games on the lawn, provided by Sol Duc Hot Springs Resort and Lake Crescent Lodge.

National Park personnel will provide interpretive programs throughout the day, while ARAMARK Parks and Destinations will provide information on its sustainable food programs within the park.

Reservations for breakfast at Lake Crescent Lodge can be made by calling (360) 928-3211.
