Propose a visit to a national lakeshore, and most folks will think you're talking about a warm-weather visit. But as the following video shows, winter can be a wonderful time to visit Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore to climb some waterfalls.

The video, a production by the Michigan tourism folks, focuses on ice climbing at Pictured Rocks. It definitely opens up some possibilities if you don't mind the cold!

Lived there 11 years and never knew of any ice climbers. A lot of Michigan Tech students were into ice diving and checking out the underwater ice formations near the shores of Lake Superior. I didn't care to participate as I found the 7mm wet suits and the overhead ice to be quite inducive of claustrophobia.
