Share

Friday night is movie night at Valley Forge National Historical Park.

Need to bone up on your Revolutionary War history? Plan a trip to Valley Forge National Historical Park, and catch a Revolutionary War-themed movie at the same time.

Every Friday night in November will feature a different film tied to the Revolutionary War. Made possible by the Encampment Store, the movies are free and largely family friendly. Each showing starts at 7 p.m. at the Park Theater. Here's the schedule:

November 6: Johnny Tremain (G) 81 min.

Based on the classic novel by Esther Forbes - the heartwarming story of a silversmith’s apprentice who joins the cause of liberty when Boston is subjected to British tyranny.

November 13: Liberty's Kids- four episodes: "Lafayette Arrives", "The Hessians Are Coming", "Valley Forge", "Allies at Last" (G) 92 min.

James and Sarah, two teens with opposite views of the Revolution, are witnesses to the most important events of the war. Join them in 1777 & 1778 as meet the Marquis de Lafayette, watch the Continental army train at Valley Forge and learn of a new alliance that will change the course of the war.

November 20: 1776, The Musical (PG- for language) 166 min. with one short intermission

Adapted from the hit Broadway Musical –see our founding fathers as never before – raucously debating the issue of independence, bashing each other’s egos and then breaking out into musical numbers!

November 27: The Crossing (Not Rated- movie contains some language and instances of violence equivalent to PG or PG-13) 89 min.

The daring Christmas Day crossing of the frozen Delaware and the attack on Trenton saved the cause of American independence. Jeff Daniels stars as General George Washington in a movie about our nation’s darkest hour and greatest triumph.

What a great idea! I wish I lived closer to the park to take advantage of this. Other parks should look at this and consider something along thet same lines if their facilities support it and their are suitable films, ets to show. GREAT!!!
