Weighing In on the Centennial Challenge

Share

Got any thoughts on how the National Park Service can prepare for its centennial in 2016?
If you live in the Seattle area, your chance to speak up comes next Tuesday, December 12, when an open meeting on the "National Park Centennial Challenge" will be held at the REI store at 222 Yale Avenue North.
Among the officials expected to be on hand are Bill Laitner, the superintendent of Olympic National Park; Jim DiPeso, policy director for  Republicans for Environmental Protection; and Sean Smith, Northwest regional director for the National Parks Conservation Association.
Invited to be on hand are U.S. Representatives Norm Dicks, who is expected to chair the House parks subcommittee in the new Congress, and Brian Baird, who with Rep. Mark Souder, R-Ind., has co-authored the National Park Centennial Act that is intended to help the Park Service get out of the red but which has yet to garner much congressional support
The meeting is set to run from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
